My 2012 Goals

It’s said that if you put your goals into writing, you actually manage to accomplish them. I am taking a page of blog-speration from Anne @ Modern Mrs. Darcy (and if you aren’t reading her blog, you should be!) and here are my 2012 goals:

Spend less, bring in more– I am still working my Thirty-One business and I am hoping to expand more. I have a pretty good sized display kit, so I am really going to try to stop the excess shopping. I have kicked my previous retail demons, and since we are living in such a great climate, I can play outside with my kids rather than head to the den of temptation (aka the Mall.)

Get that emergency fund established. Enough Said.

Determine and Perfect my Blog Niche– Right now I write about a whole gamut of ideas and I have been thinking of trying to streamline it a bit more, to focus.

Begin actually writing my YA novel– instead of just planning and re-planning and re-planning

Write an ebook– I talked to a friend a few years back about writing a book and this might be the right platform for it!

Become Self-Hosted– It might run me about $10/ month for blog hosting, but it might earn me a bit more cred.

Health and Wellness

Kick Sugar– for good this time

Start Jogging again– There is this pin on Pinterest that really reflects my feeling towards running. But a second hand double jogging stroller is less expensive that a gym membership, and the loop around the Rose Bowl Stadium is about 3 miles (just about 5K.) Spend less.

Work on my flexibility– there is a Bikram Yoga place near us, but I might just get a few Yoga DVDs instead. Again, spend less.

Personal Mental Wellness

Get my budding friendships established– Make some “momma-only” dates with the ladies that I have met here

Meet other Spiritually focused At-Home Moms at our Church– there is not a mother’s type ministry at our Parish, so I think the Holy Spirit has been kind of pushing me to start something… Maybe Mass Readings at the Park or something.

Get out once a month for some alone time– Just a date with me and a coffee cup

Re-establish Friday Night Date Night– for a bit, DH and I were having Friday Night Dates at home and they need to come back. Maybe even take some Tango lessons…

Actually finish reading Anna Karenina and The Lord of the Rings.

Work Crossword puzzles again.

I have decided to let my Etsy Shop go to the wayside. I started listing my baby hats, longies/soakers and fascinators at the peak of their popularity and I don’t like the extra pressure of having the shop stocked.

I will continue to work of my lace knitting techniques. There are some BEAUTIFUL patterns for lace shawls out there and I’d love to try them out. Plus I have some new blocking wires that I can’t wait to use.

Let’s see how far I can get on that list this year! What are your goals for 2012?

Seven Quick Takes Friday, Vol. 7

I received a couple questions about my Thirty-One announcement, yesterday, so I thought I’d clear them up here today: No, you do not have to have a party to order the items from the catalog; No, you do not have to have a party at your house; Yes, I can do catalog and internet parties; The name of the company comes from Proverbs 31 in the Old Testament; Yes, I have a few August slots open for parties; Patterns and designs change twice a year so things are always different; Yes, they now have stuff for *men*. Hope that helps you, my fantastic readers!!

This past week was World Breastfeeding Week and I am kind of ashamed to say that I did not write any posts about it. It’s been pretty busy here, and I know for me, since our chapter of LLL is celebrating WBW with a big event in October (which is great considering how the weather has been this summer) it just was not at the forefront of my mind.

Continuing along the lines of things that I thought that I would never do (like Direct Sales, again.) I’ve started watching a neighbor boy 1 morning a week for about 3 hours. His mom works from home but has to make a conference call one day a week and we know how kiddos are once you get on the phone! My girls love having the extra playmate to boot!

I spent part of this week looking at old videos of the girls when they were itty-bitties. Oh, yeah. That started the ovaries in to aching!

I am standing at my kitchen island writing this, as the girls are at the table finishing their breakfast. The Bear takes some milk onto her spoon, flicks it at her sister and says to her, “I’m just blessing you!” Another “You might be a Catholic Mama, if…”

If Baby K arrives before Wednesday of next week, I’ll be writing this next week from beautiful Door County! If Baby K doesn’t arrive before next Wednesday, I will have the whole house to myself until Sunday afternoon! Kind of a win-win… except for having to bust out the breast pump.

Intentions: For the Jaycox family who recently arrived to their new home in a far away state. We’ll miss you, Laura! For the Keppel family, for the safe arrival for Baby #3. For my in-laws, who are traveling this weekend. For those who died here in Missouri in heat-related deaths.

Have a great weekend!

Thursday’s List: Things I am waiting for that I have no control over and it’s driving me batty!

The title pretty much sums it up.

Friend’s baby to be born. Labor and delivery is such a funny thing. How awesome would it be if we had those turkey buttons on our abdomens that let us know for *sure* when labor was imminent. I don’t believe in induction or scheduling labors because I believe it leads to too many additional interventions thereby leading to the increase in Caesarians, but the waiting game is nerve-wracking and I am not the pregnant one!

We have been waiting for a few months to hear about a possible job promotion for my husband. On Tuesday (Aug 2) night he was told that there would be a conversation on Wednesday (Aug 3.) That convo didn’t happen. So we wait.

I know that the YMCA is calling my references for the swim instructor position I interviewed for, but I don’t think I have ever waited this long to hear about a possible job!

In what is proving to be the WORST KEPT SECRET (because I can’t keep secrets,) I recently took a leap of faith and signed on to be a consultant with Thirty-One. I am so excited about this because I love and believe in the product and I am a bag and organizational addict. But, my first parties aren’t scheduled for another two weeks! (We had to plan around Back-to-School start dates.) So, I’ve been doing a lot of practicing in front of mirrors and the girls, talking my husbands ear off, and visualizing!

In continuing with the Thirty-One theme, I can’t wait to see how I will succeed with this. I have only done direct sales once in my life and it wasn’t pretty. So I have that cloud hanging over my head, but I have faith that this time will be different. I will succeed at this. I will help my family out of our debt and I will have fun doing it! How’s that for personal affirmation?

For my local readers, I am scheduling September parties now! Head to my website to check out the catalog and we can chat. For my out of state readers, I currently have two internet parties running… Just a thought…

Pax Christi!
